Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2, 2026

At UniMarkets we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have in relation to your data.

1. Information We Collect

UniMarkets is a points-based prediction market platform. The information we collect includes:

  • Account Information: Email address, username (handle), password, and optional profile image.
  • Usage Information: Trading activity, points balances, market interactions, and platform usage patterns.
  • User Content: Markets, market suggestions, posts, comments, resolution submissions, reports, and related evidence you submit.
  • Personal Information in User Content: If users submit content about themselves or other people, that content may include names, handles, partial identifiers, images, opinions, academic or event-related information, or other information that can relate to an identified or identifiable person.
  • Technical Information: Browser type, device information, approximate location (via IP), and cookies/session data for authentication.

We do not collect payment information as UniMarkets uses virtual points only.

2. How We Use Information

We use the collected information to:

  • Provide and operate the UniMarkets platform (process trades, maintain leaderboards, resolve markets).
  • Communicate with you about your account and platform updates.
  • Improve the user experience and develop new features.
  • Maintain platform security and prevent abuse or cheating.
  • Review market suggestions, moderate reported content, enforce our Terms, and protect the rights and safety of users and third parties.
  • Resolve markets, including by reviewing resolution evidence and marking markets invalid where the outcome cannot be verified or where resolution would require improper disclosure of another person's private information.
  • Analyze platform usage to improve our services.

3. Legal Bases

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Contract: To provide accounts, virtual points, markets, trades, comments, notifications, and core platform features.
  • Legitimate Interests: To operate and improve UniMarkets, prevent abuse, keep the platform safe, moderate user content, handle reports, and maintain accurate market resolution and platform integrity.
  • Consent: Where we ask for optional consent, such as certain optional profile features or processing that legally requires consent.
  • Legal Obligation: Where we must process or retain information to comply with applicable law, respond to lawful requests, or exercise legal rights.

4. User Content About Other People

UniMarkets is designed for public or otherwise verifiable markets. Users must not submit markets or evidence that unlawfully exposes private information about another person. We may remove, reject, edit, restrict, or mark invalid any market that appears to involve harassment, doxxing, non-consensual intimate content, threats, hate, bullying, defamation, copyright infringement, private academic or personal information, or content that cannot be resolved without improper disclosure.

We generally do not require users to prove consent at creation. However, if a market concerns an identifiable person and the person objects, or if the creator cannot provide adequate public evidence, consent, or another lawful basis for resolution, we may remove the market or resolve it as invalid.

Markets or evidence involving special categories of personal data, including health, sex life or sexual orientation, political opinions, religion, biometric or genetic data, racial or ethnic origin, or trade union membership, are not allowed unless a clear legal exception applies. We may block or remove this content without prior notice.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We may share limited data with:

  • Service Providers: Hosting providers (e.g., Vercel), database services, and email services necessary to operate the platform.
  • Legal Requirements: If required by law or to protect our rights and safety.

Public profile information (username, profile image, trading statistics) may be visible to other users.

6. Cookies & Tracking

We use cookies and local storage to:

  • Keep you logged in during a session.
  • Store your preferences and settings.
  • Analyze platform usage (anonymous analytics).

We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies for marketing purposes.

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encryption of passwords and secure data transmission. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Data Retention

We retain your account and activity data as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data will be deleted within 30 days, though some anonymized data may be retained for analytics purposes.

Reports, moderation records, removed content records, and resolution records may be retained for a reasonable period where needed to protect users, prevent repeat abuse, document decisions, resolve disputes, or comply with legal obligations.

9. Your Rights (GDPR)

Under applicable data protection laws, you have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data.
  • Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Erasure: Request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”).
  • Data Portability: Request your data in a portable format.
  • Object: Object to certain processing of your data.
  • Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.

If content on UniMarkets identifies you or contains your personal data, you may ask us to review, restrict, remove, or correct it. We may need enough information to identify the content and assess the request, but we do not require you to disclose more personal information than necessary.

To exercise these rights, contact us at contact@unimarkets.de.

10. Children's Privacy

UniMarkets is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will delete it.

11. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed in countries outside of your residence. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers in compliance with applicable data protection laws.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice on the platform. The latest version will always be available via the Privacy link.
